Laura Newton, founder of Kind Matter, built the Canadian retail brand on the belief that sustainable living should be simple, beautiful, and accessible. An artist with a decade-long career in finance, Laura’s journey towards a more conscious lifestyle began over two decades ago, sparked by her daughter’s severe allergies and a growing concern about the hidden toxins in everyday products.

What started as a personal quest for transparency, safety, and sustainability evolved into Kind Matter, which was founded in 2018 as a warm, welcoming space dedicated to clean, eco-conscious living.

In 2024, Kind Matter was acquired by TERRA Greenhouses, a company aligned with Laura’s vision of environmental stewardship. Together, they are scaling the brand across Canada, beginning with their new 5,000 sq ft flagship store in Mississauga, Ontario, in November 2025. This will mark the company’s seventh location.

Today, Kind Matter continues to thrive as a community hub, celebrating Canadian-made goods, empowering local artisans, and inspiring individuals to make thoughtful choices that benefit their families, their communities, and the planet
